The heart of Fran's heritage garden is a collection of over 200 daylillies from her late mother's garden including five Mary Duggan hybridized and named for family members. They share space with vines, shrubs, trees, ground covers and a variety of colorful and fragrant perennials. The patio has a European feel reflecting the years Fran lived in Germany. Behind the elegant garden shed with saltbox roof and French doors is an intimate back garden inhabited by impish gnomes, native rescue plants and shade plants.

Trees are very special to Mardy in her hillside garden. Lace Bark Elm, maples, sourwood, Tupelo black gum, winter king Hawthorne are among the specimen trees that share space with native azaleas, viburnum and gardenias. Below is a flood plain dotted with blueberries and raspberry bushes. A flagstone path winds through heavily planted shade garden she created under the deck.On the west side of the house annuals, threadleaf cypress and dwarf blueberries survive nicely in the extreme afternoon sun and heat.

Something is always flowering in Jeanette's English country garden. Fragrant varieties of prized 18th and 19th century heirloom roses share space with iris, dahlias, peonies, herbs, sedum, clematis and annuals. The Arbor Vista Walk connects a recently planted spring-fed area of mixed shrubs, conifers and magnolias to the cutting garden, kitchen garden and fruit orchard beyond. Towering oaks and red maples provide shade for an understory garden of hostas, ferns, hydrangeas and camelias. And everywhere well-trimmed boxwoods, Japanese hollies, barberries, and euonymus give structure and continuity.

In just a few years Sharon has transformed a minimal landscape of foundation plants and oak trees into an ever-evolving whimsical garden filled with sun, shade, water and garden art. Fountains, ponds, feeders situated to be visible from inside the house attract birds and wildlife. A bridge over a contstructed dry stream bed leads to a natural area at the back of the property. The front yard has a jumble of annuals, wild flowers, herbs and bulbs to attract butterflies and pollinators as well as a vegetable garden and an 80 foot-long raised bed of daylilies and irises.

Barbara's Southern garden is really a series of gardens. Native wildflowers, hellebores, flowering trees, hydrangeas and azaleas as high as your head line the walking path through the large natural garden fronting her home. A magnolia shaded path leads to the fountain patio "moonlight" garden, a circular brick patio reminiscent of the Low Country overhung with Japanese maples and weeping cherries. Through a brick archway and across the lawn garden, itself bordered by gardens of ferns, laurels and perennials, is a restful Asian-inspired garden of hostas, hemlocks and Japanese maples. A slatted roof gazebo overlooks a stone pond with a gentle waterfall.
