The Master Gardener Volunteers of Cobb County (MGVOCC) support Northwest Atlanta Habitat for Humanity’s mission to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope. MGVOCC volunteers work closely with Habitat for Humanity personnel in fulfilling a vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.  We support approximately 12-15 Habitat for Humanity builds annually, providing landscape design expertise, landscape installation planning, and supervision of the many other Habitat for Humanity volunteers who help install the landscaping.

Additionally, we provide the new homeowners a landscape plantings description and care notebook specific to the plants installed and spend time educating them on the basics of plant and lawn maintenance.

Locations vary throughout Cobb County and landscape planning and installation dates are updated by the project chair with those MGVOCC gardeners who have specifically volunteered to be on the Habitat for Humanity Landscape Team.

I’m a senior living in Silver Springs Village Powder Springs. Our community has a large piece of land we would love to turn into raised beds, walking paths, a small dog park and several parking spots. The builder stripped the land of top soil. We have many in our community who love to garden whether it be vegetables, herbs or flowers we love it all. We could use quite a bit of help with its planning and building. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Please call the UGA Cobb Extension Office at 770-528-4070 for more information. Renae Lemon, Master Gardener Volunteer Coordinator, can point you in the right direction.
